I've always been intrigued by the seemingly random sightings in some missing persons cases, and Peter Bonick's is no exception. Has anyone looked into why these sightings happen after someone has disappeared? I remember reading about the unverified sighting of Peter at the Mayfair Market a month later and then again in 1977 at the San Mateo County Fair. It's puzzling how people can firmly believe they saw someone who's been missing for so long. Could these be cases of mistaken identity, or is it possible Peter really did show up in these places? It makes me wonder if anyone at the time checked into people in the area who might resemble him. What methods do investigators typically use to determine if these reports hold any water? With so much time having passed, I guess we'll never truly know if one of those sightings was genuinely Peter.
I’ve been diving deep into the fabric of 1970s California culture to better understand the disappearance of Peter Joseph Bonick and Richard Lamson. One element that stands out is the hitchhiking trend of that era. State Route 92 was a well-traveled route for hitchhikers making their way to the coast, especially toward Half Moon Bay, a known hub for free spirits and transients at the time. I can't help but wonder if the boys had made plans to meet someone specific at their destination. Could their hitchhiking have led them into an unforeseen situation with someone they encountered along the way? It's chilling to think about how common hitchhiking was back then and how it could have put them at risk. The potential for encountering danger on the road can't be ignored, especially given their young ages and vulnerable circumstances. Has anyone else come across accounts or stories from that area around the same time that could shed some light on what might have happened to them?
