I've been following the Waukesha tragedy with so much sadness and anger, and I can't help but think about the ripple effects on all the kids who were just there to enjoy a parade. Jackson Sparks's story is especially hard to take in. As a mom, it just guts me. My kids love those community events, and I can't imagine such a nightmare unfolding in what should be a moment of pure joy and celebration.
What's really touching, though, is how deeply connected this community seems to be. I read about the memorials and how everyone wore baseball jerseys to honor Jackson's passion. It’s obvious that he was part of something bigger than himself—just picturing those baseball bats at the memorial sites gets me all choked up.
Jackson's brother Tucker is in my thoughts too. Losing a sibling in such a painful way must be so incredibly difficult, especially when he’s still recovering from his own injuries. I'm hoping that he finds comfort and healing, both physically and emotionally, surrounded by the love of his community.
For those close to Jackson, I just want you to know that people across the country are holding your family in their hearts. We're angry this happened, but we’re also here sending strength and love to help carry you through.
