I've been thinking a lot about the impact John Jay Jackson must have had on his community, especially given his diverse background and the fact that he was ordained so recently. It's fascinating yet incredibly tragic how someone with such varied life experiences—an Air Force pilot, a journalist, and finally a priest—was cut down so early in his ministry. It’s clear he had a deep sense of purpose, pivoting his career path to serve his faith and community. The more I learn about him, the more I’m struck by how his murder affected not just those around St. Mary's but also people far beyond. His mother’s decision to forgive the man who killed him is just extraordinary. In a world often fueled by anger, such a gesture of mercy and advocating against the death penalty really makes you pause. It isn’t something you see every day and reflects the values John must have instilled in those close to him. Does anyone else have thoughts on how faith can drive actions, especially in such extreme circumstances?
