It's chilling to think about how unsafe Gloria Steele might have felt in her own home, especially being a young mother with so much ahead of her. It's a terrible thought to imagine the fear she must have experienced. Sometimes I wonder if this crime had a lasting impact on the community at Western Michigan University. Did it prompt any changes in campus security, or spur students to be more cautious about their surroundings? Her case serves as a grim reminder of how quickly things can turn, even in familiar, everyday settings. My thoughts are with Gloria's family and friends; I hope they found some peace eventually.
