I've been reflecting a lot on the circumstances surrounding Sherri Weathers' case, and something that's been on my mind is how vulnerable her situation was. A young, hearing-impaired mother trying to make a better life for herself and her children, all while balancing education and the everyday challenges that come with her condition. It makes me so sad to think about the trust Sherri put in Siebert, possibly liking the idea of new companionship, only to have it horribly betrayed. Living in such a close-knit community like the Alabama Institute for the Deaf and Blind, I would imagine there was an extra layer of trust and support among residents. It's chilling to think someone could exploit that trust so heinously. My thoughts truly go out to Sherri's family, friends, and those who lived in that community around that time. It's a heavy burden to bear knowing the deception and harm Siebert brought into their lives.
