I've been thinking a lot about the mistrial in Donald Piper's first trial, and it just sits heavy with me. New evidence coming to light so late in the game must have been incredibly frustrating and painful for Patricia Ann Lange's family. Waiting for justice for so many years and then having it delayed by something like this—I can only imagine the emotional toll it took on them. It's such a grim reminder of how complex and drawn-out the legal process can be, especially in older cases. But on the flip side, thank goodness that science and technology caught up with what was needed to get the conviction. I try to keep in mind that every twist and turn in a case like this represents more than just legal strategy but real lives affected. For those who knew Patricia, I hope knowing that Piper is behind bars and can’t harm anyone else brings some peace. It's a small comfort, but I hope it helps them in their healing journey. My heart goes out to everyone who loved her.

Just a thought about Patricia Ann Lange's case that's been on my mind: I always wonder about the impact the long wait for answers has on families of victims. Patricia's family had to go over six years without knowing who was responsible for such an awful crime. During that time, they must have been living in a constant state of grief, mixed with the hope that justice would someday be served. It’s unimaginable to many of us what they went through during those years, not to mention the emotional rollercoaster of the trials. Even when the guilty verdict finally came, the sense of relief must have been overshadowed by the weight of their ongoing loss. It makes me appreciate the strength and resilience of families like Patricia's, who have had to endure so much while seeking justice for their loved ones. If anyone has thoughts on the support systems that help families through such prolonged investigations, I'd love to hear them. @everyone
