It’s hard to wrap my head around how unpredictable and unsafe things can be, hearing about cases like James Loper’s. I was thinking about the fact that he was such a devoted dad—being out there on the roads to support his kids in the middle of the night. It makes you realize just how much he gave of himself to make sure his family was cared for, especially knowing a tow-truck job isn’t the easiest or safest. Those late night calls must have been tough, but he did it, and it’s so incredibly unfair that he had to lose his life because of someone else's actions. I can’t even imagine what his little ones are going through or how his family is coping with the loss all these years later. The thought that his colleagues and friends have to carry on with this void is just sad. It’s a stark reminder of the risks some folks take in their everyday jobs while we might take such services for granted. How do we even begin to piece together something like this, when random, senseless violence takes away a good soul? It’s a loss beyond comprehension.
