I've been reading about the tragic case of Tsai-Lian Veronica Yu, and I can't help but think about the sheer randomness of it all. It's terrifying how she was just going about her life, driving home, and then her path crossed with a monster like Richard Ramirez. The fact that she was a talented student at the Art Center College of Design makes this even more devastating; she had dreams, goals, and a future that was so cruelly taken from her. What really gets to me is that just moments before this horrific encounter, Tsai-Lian probably had no idea of the danger she was in. Monterey Park should have been a safe place for her. It's a sobering reminder of how unpredictable life can be, and how senseless acts of violence can shatter lives in seconds. My heart really goes out to her family and friends, and all the others who suffered because of Ramirez. They deserved so much more than the aftermath of his cruelty. I'm just hoping they’ve found some peace with time.
