I've been thinking about Bernice Fagotte's case and something that really sticks out to me is her generosity. This was a woman in her late 80s who opened her home and heart to someone she thought was in need of help. Despite knowing about Miller's past, she showed him kindness and trusted him enough to rent him a place and give him work. It's deeply troubling to know that her empathy might have led to her tragic fate. I can't help but wonder if her disappearance might have been prevented if she'd had someone looking out for her too. It just breaks your faith in humanity a bit when someone takes advantage of such kindness. My thoughts are with her loved ones who never got closure. It’s a grim reminder for all of us to be cautious, even as we try to be kind.
