Has anyone else been following the details around the vigil held for Amyri Dior? I watched a few clips online, and it was profoundly moving to see the community come together to remember her. The words shared by Amyri’s friends and family were incredibly powerful and heartfelt. It got me thinking about the risks and challenges faced by Black transgender women, and how vital it is for communities to support them more proactively. It's deeply saddening to think that anyone could be taken from this world because of who they are. Amyri's mother, Perriona Williams, spoke so beautifully about her daughter during the vigil. Her call for everyone to "live in the truth" really resonates—even in the face of such tragedy, the importance of authenticity and acceptance shines through. It’s clear how much Amyri was loved and valued by her community. We need more spaces and conversations like this to ensure everyone feels safe and recognized. My heart goes out to Amyri's family and all who gathered to honor her life.
