Has anyone else been thinking about the role that community support might play in preventing tragedies like Candy J. Gibson’s murder? It's really tragic to hear about someone who was not only turning her life around but also making such a positive impact on those around her. She was caring for her sister, dealing with her own recovery journey, and trying to build a new path. It's often during these times that we need community strength the most, and I can't help but wonder if increased community resources or neighborhood engagement could help people in similar situations feel more protected or even diffuse potential violence before it happens.

It might be wishful thinking, but hopefully, city officials and local community leaders can organize more initiatives that bridge police and community relations, providing resources or safe checkpoints for those living in what seems to be increasingly dangerous areas.
