I’ve been thinking a lot about the impact this has on the Tenderloin community. Living in that neighborhood means seeing both its challenges and its vibrant spirit. It’s been especially tough hearing about the loss of young lives like Leaotis's. I can’t help but wonder how this affects the residents who knew him—how do they feel safe walking through streets that should be home but are now marked by tragedy? There's been so much speculation about motives, and it’s easy to get caught up in the headlines. Still, I hope that people remember Leaotis as more than just another statistic. As someone who used to frequent Market Street, this hits close to home. Tenderloin has its problems, but it also has people who genuinely care and work hard to uplift their community. My heart goes out to them as they navigate this difficult time.
