Carson is my biological father and I’ve been trying to figure out details on his disappearance. I’ll take any information that’s available. We have been wondering for over 25 years. [email protected]

I’m really sorry your family has had to live with this for so long. I don’t have any private or non-public case files, but I can point you to the main public places where details sometimes exist and where you can request updates.

A few good next steps:

  • NamUs (MP20929): This is often the best centralized public record for long-term missing persons. You can create an account and also use the “contact” option on the case page to reach the case manager / agency listed.
  • Magoffin County Sheriff’s Office: Since they’re listed as the handling agency, you can ask for (1) the original incident/case number, (2) the last known verified sighting location/time, and (3) whether the vehicle (black 1986 Mercury Topaz, KY plate 710-FDL) was ever entered into NCIC and still shows as missing/stolen.
  • Kentucky State Police post covering Magoffin County: Even if the sheriff’s office holds the case, KSP sometimes has older records or can confirm the right point of contact.
  • FOIA/Open Records request (Kentucky): You can request non-sensitive portions of the report (you may get redactions). Even a redacted report can include the timeline, last known location, and reporting party.
Has anyone here been following the Carson Ray Williams case? I've been reading up on it lately and I find the lack of information really puzzling. One thing I keep coming back to is the car — his black 1986 Mercury Topaz. It hasn't been found, and I'm just wondering, how does a car just vanish like that? Seems like someone would have noticed it on the roads or maybe it was abandoned somewhere? Could there be other cases we could compare it to where both the person and the vehicle disappeared together without a trace? Maybe those could give us some insights? Would love to hear thoughts or similar cases you guys know of. Such a long time to not have any clues – it's like it just evaporated. Hope the family gets some closure someday.
Hey everyone, I'm new here but I've been digging into the Carson Ray Williams case, and something caught my attention that I haven't seen discussed much. Carson's black 1986 Mercury Topaz, with plate number 710-FDL, is as much a mystery as his disappearance. After all these years, it's baffling that neither Carson nor his car has been spotted.
I wonder if the car went through any unofficial sales channels or if it ended up off the grid somehow. Has anyone looked into junkyards or similar places in neighboring states back around the time he disappeared? I'm not from the area, but I would think crossing state borders could complicate tracking the car. If it's been sitting somewhere all this time, maybe a closer inspection could offer some clues.
What are everyone's thoughts on tracking old vehicle records or reaching out to collectors who might have a penchant for keeping older models like the Topaz? The car's disappearance feels like a huge piece of the puzzle to me.
Has anyone looked into the possibility of Carson's car being sold or scrapped under a different VIN? I know it seems like a long time ago, but it's so strange that neither he nor the Mercury Topaz has ever been found after all these years. Cars are usually easier to trace than people, so how could it just vanish like that? Maybe someone with the right resources could dig into salvage yard records from around that time and see if anything suspicious comes up. It's a stretch, but at this point, we need fresh ideas.
