I recently read about how Felix McDermott's family is seeking justice through a wrongful death claim, and it got me thinking about the broader implications here. ? It’s infuriating to know that the VA hospital seemingly ignored warning signs despite earlier incidents. How could such a pattern of tragic acts happen right under their nose?
McDermott served our country with honor, only to face unimaginable betrayal in a place meant for care and healing. The system failed him and the other victims so grievously. It’s essential for us to question how these lapses in oversight and accountability came to be. I hope this case can spark positive changes in hospital regulations and prevent future tragedies. The veterans who have given so much for our country deserve better. Thoughts and prayers with the McDermott family and everyone affected. ??
I’ve been thinking a lot about the protocols at the VA hospital in Clarksburg and how Reta Mays was able to work there unchecked for so long. It's just so difficult to comprehend how someone could repeatedly harm patients without raising red flags. My heart goes out to Felix Kirk McDermott's family and all the other families affected by this tragedy.
What truly puzzles me is the lack of immediate action once suspicions arose. The fact that multiple incidents occurred before any serious investigation took place is deeply concerning. I can't help but wonder if there were missed opportunities to catch Mays sooner. Were there signs or complaints that were overlooked? Were the staff trained to notice and report unusual changes in patient health, especially non-diabetic patients suddenly suffering from hypoglycemia?
These are veterans who gave so much to their country; they deserved to be safe and cared for in their time of need, not to fall victim to such a betrayal. The oversight failures need addressing to ensure nothing like this happens again. I hope the ongoing investigations bring about significant improvements in how potential threats within healthcare settings are handled. Would love to hear other people's thoughts on what more could have been done.
