Kenneth Cheetham, a Caucasian man, and his wife Iva Larue were on a road trip near Lake Inez in Missoula County, Montana, when both were shot and killed on or about July 30, 1991. The couple’s bodies were found in the remote Swan Valley area, and the deaths were investigated as a double homicide by the Missoula County Sheriff’s Office.
No arrests were ever made. Investigators identified some persons of interest during the original probe but lacked sufficient evidence to charge anyone. In April 2019 the Sheriff’s Office enlisted two retired federal agents to re-examine the case, reviewing evidence found on and near the bodies and exploring modern DNA and genealogical techniques, but the murders remain unsolved.
Does anyone who traveled Swan Valley in late July 1991 or who knew the couple have information that could help explain what happened?
