The married couple was on a road trip, vacationing in the scenic area near Lake Inez in Missoula County, Montana. Their journey took a tragic and mysterious turn on or about July 30, 1991, when both were shot and killed. The remote and serene landscape of the Swan Valley became the backdrop for a double homicide that would remain a chilling cold case for decades.
The initial investigation into the deaths of Cheetham and Larue was conducted by the Missoula County Sheriff's Office. However, despite their efforts, no arrests were ever made in connection with the murders.
