I’ve been following Misty McGugin’s case, and something that really stuck with me is the impact her disappearance must have had on her family, especially her young son. It’s devastating to think about a child growing up without their mother because of such senseless violence. I can’t imagine the pain her family felt not knowing where she was for those few days, and then the horror of learning what actually happened to her. It's noteworthy that her case was a turning point in capturing Gerald Patrick Lewis, but that doesn't lessen the pain for Misty's loved ones. It's just so unjust that it took the loss of innocent lives to bring him to justice. I'm grateful that her case helped shine a light on Lewis's crimes, though, and hopefully prevented future tragedies. My thoughts are with Misty’s family and all the families affected by his actions.
