On the evening of March 19, 2007, 26-year-old Kellen Lamont Gillespie was shot in the 2600 block of Madison Street in the Jeff-Vander-Lou neighborhood on St. Louis’s Northside. Police found Gillespie with fatal injuries after being called to the scene; investigators described the shooter as an unknown assailant and offered few immediate leads about motive or identity.

The investigation struggled to produce an arrest. Very few case details have been released about the circumstances of the attack or possible witnesses.
