I've been following the discussions about the "Gillham Park Strangler" and couldn't stop thinking about the role the location played in these horrific events. Gillham Park seems like it was a place with such potential for community reconciliation and gatherings, yet it turned into a nightmare zone for the residents during that time. Janice Berryman's murder, along with the others, just breaks my heart for her family and the community. Could you imagine what it must have been like to live near the park during those months, constantly on edge, fearing for your safety and for others? It's haunting to think about how a serene public area—a place where people should feel safe enjoying nature—became a hunting ground for a predator like Ray Shawn Jackson. It's a reminder of how critical it is for cities to ensure their public spaces are safe and well-patrolled. I'm curious if any changes were made to Gillham Park after Jackson's arrest. Did the city take any steps to make the park safer, or was there any push from the community to make sure something like this never happened again? Sending thoughts to Janice's loved ones and everyone who lived through that terrifying period in Kansas City.
