Hey everyone,
I've been thinking a lot about Henrietta Wright and the circumstances around her case, especially the location where her body was found. It's really concerning that such a horrific crime could happen in a neighborhood like Hyde Park, and it makes me wonder if there were signs that were overlooked or warnings that went unheeded.
Back in the 80s, this area was no stranger to struggles, but Wright's murder brings home how the dangers faced by women, particularly Black women, often didn’t get the attention they deserved. It’s terrifying to think that a community can feel unsafe and be ignored by those who are supposed to help protect us.
Does anyone have more insights on how the neighborhood responded back then? Were there community efforts to raise awareness or push for more protection for its residents? Understanding what was or wasn't done could really highlight what needs to change in how law enforcement interacts with marginalized communities today.
My heart goes out to those who knew Henrietta and the other victims. These are the stories that need to be kept in the light.
