It's so sad and frustrating to think about the life John Harold Schiermeister had before his untimely death. Being transient doesn't make someone any less valuable or deserving of safety and justice. It must have been terrifying for him in those last moments, thinking he was just sharing a drink with someone, only for it to turn into a horrible tragedy. I can't imagine what his friends and family went through, not even knowing his fate until days later. What boggles my mind is how someone like Andrew David Edwards, with such a clear pattern of violence, was able to continue for so long across multiple states. It's a relief he's finally behind bars, but it's small comfort compared to the lives lost and the trauma inflicted. My thoughts go out to everyone affected by this senseless act.
I've been going through some of the cold cases from the '80s, and the murder of John Harold Schiermeister caught my attention. Does anyone else think it's haunting how vulnerable the transient community was (and still is) to random acts of violence like this? John was just going about his night, and tragedy struck. It's chilling to think how Andrew Edwards got away with this and continued his violent rampage for years before being caught. My thoughts go out to John’s family and anyone who knew him. How terrible it must have been to live with unanswered questions for so long. I hope the case’s resolution brought them some peace, even though nothing can truly compensate for their loss.
