I've been digging into George Adorno's case, and I can't help but feel for the families of his victims. What's really troubling is how his violent acts seem to stem from a pattern that the juvenile system just couldn't handle at the time. I've read that Adorno had a violent history even before Morris Ratter's tragic death. It's chilling to think that, despite red flags from such a young age, he was able to evade serious consequences for so long.
Does anyone know more about the judicial climate of the 70s around young offenders? It sounds like the system was quite lenient, which is baffling given how severe his offenses were. It's unsettling to think that a system meant to curb future crimes essentially allowed someone like Adorno to escalate his behavior. My heart goes out to the Ratter family and others affected, who must feel the deep scars left by these crimes.
Anyone else have thoughts on how justice has evolved (or not) since then, especially concerning young offenders?
