It’s been on my mind how Deputy Westbrook had a split-second to realize the danger he was in before being shot. It’s terrifying to think how quickly things can escalate, and how vulnerable security personnel are when they’re caught off guard. Even though he was just doing an extra job that day, he stepped up to protect others when it mattered the most. Can we talk about how precarious those working conditions are for off-duty officers? They never really step out of harm’s way, do they? It’s clear that the dangers they face extend well beyond their official working hours. My heart goes out to his family and colleagues who had to face such a brutal loss. His bravery should never be forgotten. ?️
