I was thinking today about how the smaller details of a case often get overlooked, like the gas station itself. It’s been over three decades since Corporal Jeffery Scott Sanford’s tragic death, and I wonder how that particular Shell station at 6031 Interstate 45 North handled the aftermath of such a traumatic event. Did they change anything about their security measures or their hours of operation? Did they hold any memorial for him, given that he lost his life there trying to protect others?
It’s hard to imagine what it must have been like for the employees working that night. Witnessing something so violent must have been incredibly traumatic. And for those who had to continue working there, was it ever the same? It's easy to get caught up in the larger picture and forget the ripples that tragedy creates on the community level. Just some thoughts on how the spaces and people around these tragic events are forever changed. Thoughts?
