I can't stop thinking about the trauma Kiana's friends must be experiencing. It's haunting to imagine being so young and losing a close friend in such a violent way. High school years are supposed to be filled with memories of prom, graduation, and planning for the future, not mourning over a friend who was taken too soon. I hope the school and community leaders provide adequate support systems for these young people as they process this unimaginable loss. It's important for them to have a safe space to express their grief and anger. And while we focus on finding justice for Kiana, let's remember the emotional scars left on those who loved her.
