It's hard to wrap my head around the fact that Essence Derouen was just an innocent bystander caught in such a terrible situation. I can't help but feel for her little boy who now has to grow up without his mom. As a parent myself, it's terrifying to think about how one moment can change everything. It makes you wonder if there were any early warning signs that could have prevented Jorian Treyvon Peters from escalating to such violence. His prior record is troubling, and I hope this case brings more awareness to the need for better interventions for people at risk of committing violent acts. My heart goes out to Essence’s family and everyone who loved her. Sending strength and hoping for justice.
