I recently came across some information that got me thinking about the role of fatigue in police work and how it played into the tragic incident involving Botham Jean. It seems that Amber Guyger had just finished a 13.5-hour shift on the night she mistakenly entered Botham’s apartment. I can't help but wonder about the impact that chronic exhaustion might have on decision-making, especially in such high-pressure jobs. While it's in no way an excuse for what happened, the potential risks of long hours in law enforcement need more discussion. Being tired is no justification for mistaking someone else’s home for your own, but it raises questions about oversight and the policies in place that might prevent such tragedies. It's essential to remember Botham as we talk about these broader issues. He was a brilliant, compassionate person whose life was senselessly taken. My heart goes out to his family and everyone who knew him. They deserve to see real changes that ensure this can't happen again.
