I really hope at some point they excavate the crash site. This really needs to happen for the family so there can be some sense of closure.

Wow, the discovery of the wreckage almost 53 years later is just wild to me. I've been following the George Nikita case for a while, and I can't help but wonder about the impact it had on aviation safety. It seems like back in 1971, the technology for tracking and weather forecasting wasn't nearly what it is today. I mean, losing radar contact in bad weather sounds like something from a horror story, but it was probably more common than we think back then. Does anyone know if this incident led to any changes in aviation protocols or search and rescue methods in the following years? It's so frustrating that despite the recent find, we still have no answers about what exactly went wrong that day. Maybe further investigation into the wreckage can shed some light? It gives me chills thinking about what Nikita's family must have gone through all these years.
I was reading up on the disappearance of George Nikita and the other passengers on that ill-fated flight from Burlington in 1971, and something struck me: the timing of the search efforts. From what I gathered, they started almost immediately after the jet went off radar, given the harsh winter conditions and the urgency of losing a plane over such a huge body of water like Lake Champlain. Yet, despite the sonar and aerial searches, nothing turned up for decades. It makes me wonder about the technology and resources available at the time. Could it be that the severe weather masked crucial evidence, or perhaps the technology just wasn't advanced enough to detect the wreckage? It's oddly comforting and frustrating to see that they finally found something in 2024, but it raises questions about what might have been lost to time and the elements. What are your thoughts on how search methods have evolved over the years?
Hi everyone,
I came across an old article about the George Nikita case and found something intriguing. Does anyone know if there were any distinguishing markings or unique features on the Rockwell Jet Commander he was on? I remember reading somewhere that certain planes had specific paint jobs or logos that might help in identifying wreckage pieces. Could this have played a role when they finally discovered parts of the jet in 2024? Would love to hear thoughts or if anyone has more detailed information on the aircraft's appearance.
Thanks!
