Has anyone else been thinking about that patron from Fifth Ward who tipped off the police about Melvin Douglas? It’s fascinating how crucial that bit of information was in solving the case. I often wonder if the person knew Douglas personally or if they just recognized him from a description or the surveillance footage floating around. The bravery it must have taken to come forward is commendable, especially in such a tragic and violent case. It’s a reminder of how important community vigilance can be, even when we feel like we’re facing insurmountable odds. I hope whoever provided that tip knows how much they helped Oday Qadous’ loved ones get a step closer to justice.
