I’ve been thinking a lot about the tragic circumstances surrounding Jarmel Jarmon-Joiner’s death. It’s incredibly sad to see how his life was taken so suddenly and senselessly. I came across some reports about how loved he was by his family and the community, and it’s devastating to consider the ripple effect this has caused in their lives. Being an innocent bystander stuck in such a horrifying situation highlights just how unpredictable and cruel life can sometimes be.
One aspect that continues to stick with me is how this happened in the wee hours of the morning. I can't help but think about how vulnerable anyone might feel alone at that time, let alone someone like Jarmel who was in a wheelchair. It’s horrifying and unfair that this happened when he was just trying to make his way home.
The fact that Watson and Harris were involved in a convenience store robbery before this just adds another layer to the senselessness of it all. Can the legal system really bring justice in a situation where a life is lost in this manner? I really hope Jarmel’s family finds some peace and that Harris, whose case is still pending, faces appropriate consequences for his actions.
I'm horrified by the randomness and senselessness of Jarmel’s death. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time cost this innocent man his life. It’s infuriating to see how gang violence doesn’t just affect those involved but spills over into the lives of innocent bystanders like Jarmel, who was simply trying to cross the street. I can't even begin to imagine what his family is going through, losing him so suddenly and so unjustly. It's a stark reminder of how some areas in our communities are plagued by violence that impacts everyone, not just those involved in the activities. I hope justice prevails in Vincent Harris's case, and we see more efforts toward tackling the root causes of such violence to prevent future tragedies. My heart goes out to Jarmel’s family and friends during this unimaginable time.
