Was anyone else shocked to hear about how the neighbors described Jennifer and Elijah? From what I've read, Jennifer was such an integral part of their community. Hearing that she was considered the "heart of the community" really adds another layer of sadness to this tragedy. It’s hard to come to terms with the loss of such a bright person, and it makes me think about what could have driven Roel to commit such an unthinkable act. Elijah, just 5 years old, had his whole life ahead of him. It's devastating how something like this could come out of nowhere, with no signs. I truly hope the community can find a way to heal together after such an impactful loss.

I've been following the horrific case of Elijah Garza and his family, and although every part of it is disturbing, I'm particularly haunted by the time Roel Garza made the 911 call. Imagine the sheer panic, despair, or perhaps the absence of hope in that moment for him to reach out like that. What was going through his mind, knowing what he had already done? Some part of him must have been torn for him to ask for help, right? It's gut-wrenching to think that maybe, just maybe, things could have turned out differently if intervention came just a little sooner. The community must be in shock, grappling with unanswered questions and unresolved feelings about safety and trust. We should support one another as Portland navigates this trauma, cherishing the memories of Elijah and Jennifer, who clearly touched so many lives. Sending thoughts and strength to their loved ones and everyone dealing with this unimaginable tragedy.
