I’ve been following the Holton case closely, and one thing that weighs on my mind is the role mental health played in this tragic event. As someone who has a family member struggling with PTSD, the intersection of mental illness and violent crime is particularly concerning to me. It's devastating to think about how Daryl Holton's untreated mental health issues and experiences from the Gulf War may have contributed to this horrific tragedy. I'm not in any way excusing his actions, but it does make me wonder if more support for veterans could have made a difference. My heart truly goes out to Eric, Kayla, and their siblings, as well as to all those who loved them. It's essential we talk about the importance of mental health resources, especially for those who have served in the military. This case is such a sad reminder of the complexities involved and the real need for meaningful support systems.
