I recently stumbled upon the case of Officer Frank C. Skidmore and it's really been on my mind. The fact that he was with the New Castle Police Department for only six weeks before this tragic event is just so poignant. Imagine starting a new chapter in your career, probably filled with hope and the desire to make a difference, only to have it cut short in such a horrific way. It must have been incredibly hard for his wife and child to process this immense loss, especially under such shocking circumstances. I also find it quite troubling that the suspect, after being apprehended, was eventually given a full pardon. How do the victim’s family and the community come to terms with that? It must feel like reopening a wound that never truly healed. If anyone has more background on how the community responded when the suspect was released and pardoned, I'd be keen to hear more. Officer Skidmore's story deserves to be remembered, and it’s clear how much of an impact his service — even in such a short amount of time — had on those around him.
