I came across the story of Ji-ye Jerry Sun recently, and it's been really weighing on my mind. To those who knew him, can anyone tell me more about what he was like as a person? I understand he was one of the tragic victims in the Pittsburgh shooting in 2000, and my heart truly goes out to his family and friends during what must still be an unimaginable time. I find it so important to remember the individuals behind these awful headlines, rather than just the circumstances of their deaths. What were his interests, and how did he touch people's lives in his community? Surely, he deserves to be remembered for the person he was, rather than just a name on a list of victims. Anyone who can share memories or stories about him would be giving a real gift to those of us who only know him through this tragedy.
I keep thinking about how Ji-ye Jerry Sun was in the wrong place at the wrong time, just trying to live his life when such unimaginable violence struck. It’s absolutely gut-wrenching. I can't help but feel for his family, who must have been shattered by such a senseless act. It's infuriating to think that someone's hatred could rip apart multiple families on that day. It’s been over two decades, but for the families of all the victims, the pain doesn’t just disappear. I hope they’ve found some form of solace over the years and that sharing their stories might help reduce these horrible tragedies in the future. Anyone else feel like there’s still so much work to be done to address racially motivated violence?
