I was thinking about how clubs like the one on South 19th Street can become sites of tragedy so quickly. It’s just awful to imagine that Todd Dunlap Jr., who was simply doing his job as a bouncer, had his life ended over an argument that spiraled out of control. It really makes you think about the responsibilities and risks that come with jobs in nightlife and security. They’re often the ones keeping us safe, yet are put in danger themselves. Shakyia and their five kids must have gone through so much after losing him. Not only is it a massive emotional blow, but the financial strains are real and tough to navigate. I hope there continues to be support for families who go through something like this. It’s a reminder of how interconnected we all are, and that we should look out for each other, especially when things turn dark. My heart goes out to them as they try to pick up the pieces after such a loss.

I’ve been following Todd Dunlap's case, and my thoughts keep coming back to the profound ripple effect this tragedy has had on his family, especially considering he was the main support for his five children. It’s utterly unimaginable to think about what Shakyia and those kids had to endure after losing such an integral part of their lives. The fact that violent actions can shatter so many lives really speaks to the urgent need to address these issues in our communities. I hope that sharing their story raises awareness about the importance of standing up against violence and supporting victims’ families.
