It's such a gut-wrenching feeling when you hear about how something like this could happen despite all the precautions being taken. Chien-Kuo Lin did what many would consider the right thing by calling the police for assistance when returning to his ex-wife’s house. It’s tragic that the officer left before anything went awry, leaving Lin vulnerable to such a fate. The part that really shakes me is thinking about how close we might have been to preventing this. If only the officer stayed a bit longer, if only there had been more control measures in place for situations that have the potential to escalate quickly. It goes to show how important it is for authorities to assess situations with caution and maybe even consider protocol changes in cases involving domestic disputes. Everyone involved in this case is a victim in some way. It's hard to wrap your head around how situations escalate like this and end with such finality. I just hope Chien-Kuo's family finds some peace, and that ongoing awareness about these issues might help prevent future tragedies.
