I’ve been reading about the tragic case of Jordan Scott, and something I can't shake is the role of social media in all of this. It’s so alarming to think that a dispute started online could escalate to such a horrific result. I remember being 16 and having disagreements with friends online, but it never crossed my mind that it could turn deadly. It makes me wonder what steps can be taken to better address and de-escalate these types of conflicts before they reach such a terrible point. My heart goes out to Jordan’s family and friends who are grieving his loss. It’s terrifying to think how some words on a screen translated into such a devastating event. I hope there is support for the community and, especially, for young people navigating these new social norms. No one should have to lose their life over a social media dispute.
