I’ve been reading through the details surrounding Officer Derrick Lanier’s case, and one thing that struck me was the incredible bravery he showed in his final moments. It’s tough to wrap my mind around the fact that, even as everything happened so quickly, he still acted to protect others. Trying to shield those nearby when facing such imminent danger truly shows his courage and commitment to protecting the community he served. My thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues who lost such a remarkable person. The selflessness he demonstrated is a reminder of the risk officers take each day. If anyone from Lakewood was around back then and remembers the community response or memorials that took place, I’d love to hear how people banded together to support each other during that time.
