I've been thinking a lot about the role of community parks and how they’re meant to be safe spaces, especially in the wake of what happened to Aaron "Skittles" Smith. It's truly devastating that a place meant for joy and togetherness became the site of such a senseless act. College Hill Park, like many parks, is supposed to bring people together, not be a place of violence. It breaks my heart to see how easy it is for lives to be shattered by such violence. It really makes you wonder what measures can be taken to ensure public spaces can truly be enjoyed without fear. What can we do as a community to protect these spaces and prevent future tragedies? I’m sending love to Aaron's family and friends. Losing a beloved community member like Skittles is a profound loss that affects everyone.
