I've been following D’Shane Wilcox's case with a heavy heart. It's truly upsetting how vulnerable our essential workers can be, just performing their daily duties. One aspect that struck me is the lack of security measures or support programs for sanitation workers who work in higher-risk neighborhoods. While it's clear that D’Shane was dedicated to his job and his family, it's hard to imagine how his friends and co-workers must feel continuing to work in such environments.
It makes me wonder if there’s more that could be done not just in terms of physical safety but also in providing mental health resources to workers who endure such traumatic incidents. I heard that the Solid Waste Association acknowledged the tragedy, but practical steps are even more crucial right now.
