I've been following the tragic case of Jeremy Bickerstaff and Carlos Benito, and my heart truly goes out to their families as they navigate this incredibly difficult time. Something that's been on my mind is the sentencing disparity between Anthony Rogers and Jami Sherrill. Rogers, who directly pulled the trigger, was sentenced to 12 years, while Sherrill received between 28 and 33 ½ years. I know the justice system can be complex, especially with the additional factors of the drug and human trafficking operations involved, but it just seems puzzling. Is it normal for the person who didn't do the shooting to receive a longer sentence? If anyone with more legal insight could shed some light on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Keeping both victims’ loved ones in my thoughts.
