Hey everyone, I've been following the discussion about Atayia Nichols' tragic death, and something that's really sticking with me is the context of where all this happened—the Glenwood Community Center. It's supposed to be a safe space, a place where people go to cool off from the summer heat, hang out with friends, and just feel secure. It just makes everything about this case even more unsettling to think that such violence could happen in what should be a refuge. I can't even begin to fathom the kind of fear and chaos for those who were at the community center when the shooting occurred. My heart goes out to Atayia's family and friends, and everyone else who now feels unsafe in a community space that was meant to be for them. I hope the city will take action to ensure the community center and other local parks become safer so that no one else has to go through something like this in the future.
