I came across Harold Reed’s case while browsing cold cases in Detroit, and what really stands out to me is how crucial community involvement is in these investigations. Harold’s life was tragically cut short, leaving his family and friends without closure or justice, and it seems like so many others are in the same painful situation. Detroit’s Cold Case Unit and initiatives like the cold case webpage are definitely steps in the right direction, but they heavily rely on people coming forward with information. There’s so much that goes unseen or unsaid in communities struggling with crime. I often wonder if fear or distrust are the biggest barriers to getting people to share what they know. It's painful to think about how many families like Harold’s are out there living without answers. Maybe more people can be encouraged to contribute what they know if they see real change in how cases are handled. Every small piece of information can be essential, and individuals making that choice to speak up could be what finally makes a difference in solving these cases. It’s a tough situation all around, and my heart goes out to all those who are still waiting for justice.
