I've been reading up on the Greensboro Massacre and am particularly struck by how the community responded in the aftermath. It's puzzling to me that, despite the serious nature of the attack and the loss of César Vincente Cauce and others, there wasn't a stronger law enforcement presence that day. How could they have been warned about potential violence and yet been nowhere in sight? It really makes you question the priorities at play back then. I'm especially thinking about César's contributions and how passionate he was about social justice—it feels like this loss was even more profound given what he was working towards. The resilience of the community, especially of those who continued to fight for truth and reconciliation, is inspiring, although it can't bring back those who were lost. Can't stop thinking about what it was like for his family and friends to endure not only the tragedy but the total lack of accountability that followed. It feels important to keep discussing their stories and pushing for justice, even decades later.
