On a tragic Saturday morning, June 12, 2021, the life of 19-year-old Gage Damon Ison was cut short in his Dorsey, Mississippi, home. A White/Caucasian male, Ison was a recent graduate of Itawamba Agricultural High School and a father to two young sons. The devastating event unfolded when his longtime best friend, Chris Moore, arrived at the residence.
The situation escalated into a hostage scenario, during which Moore shot Ison six times.
After the shooting, Moore attempted to gain entry to a room where Ison's wife, his mother-in-law, and their two-year-old son were seeking refuge. With only one bullet remaining, Moore turned the gun on himself, ending his own life in a murder-suicide.
The Itawamba County Sheriff's Department responded to the scene to find both Ison and Moore deceased. Investigations revealed a troubled history leading up to the fatal incident. Moore had reportedly struggled with mental health issues, and days prior to the shooting, had threatened to harm Ison and his newborn baby. This threat led Ison to tell Moore he was no longer welcome at his home, a confrontation that is believed to have triggered the tragic events.
The investigation into the deaths concluded that the incident was a murder-suicide, and as the perpetrator was deceased, no further arrests were made. The community was left to mourn the sudden and violent loss of a young husband and father, remembered by his loved ones for his kindness and love for his family.
