I can't stop thinking about how Joey's musical talent was such an integral part of his life and how much potential he had. As someone who attended North Carolina Central University, though we didn't know each other personally, the jazz program is a tight-knit community, and Joey was truly respected both for his abilities and his dedication. Hearing from those who were close to him, it's clear he was more than just gifted; he was passionate about sharing that gift with others. His role in his church's band speaks volumes about his character and commitment—not only to music but also to his community. Joey's passing is a tremendous loss for everyone who valued his contributions, and I can only hope that those who loved him find some comfort in the beautiful memories he created. If anyone happens to know more about his time at NCCU or his performances, please share. Keeping his spirit alive by remembering his music feels important.
