It's been almost ten years since Caitlin Faulkenberry's life was tragically cut short, and yet every time I hear about her story, it brings to mind how crucial community involvement can be in domestic violence situations. It makes me wonder about the loudness of silence in these scenarios. Were there warning signs that neighbors or friends noticed but didn’t speak about?
I can't help but think about how situations like these can often seem "normal" to the individuals involved until they escalate to something unthinkable. It's essential for us, as a community, to be supportive and proactive. If we see or hear something troubling, we need to be encouraged to say something—reach out to the person involved or find a way to get them help. It's so important for Caitlin's friends and family, and indeed all of us, to keep pushing for change and awareness. We owe it to her memory and to others who might be in similar circumstances.
