I've been thinking a lot about the role that trauma plays in these situations, especially when it comes to the families involved. It's just crushing to imagine what Najay's family is going through. Patricia Peace's call for an end to this cycle of violence is so important. I can't even begin to imagine the strength it takes to hold onto hope and want to drive change after losing someone so dear. It's so easy to let emotions take over, but she's right—retaliation won't solve anything and only leads to more tragedy. I hope the community can come together and honor Najay's memory by working towards peace. If anyone here is familiar with programs or initiatives in Durham that focus on intervention and support, I'd love to hear about them. Maybe we can spread some awareness and try to prevent more families from experiencing this kind of pain.
