I recently stumbled upon this tragic story of Officer Benjamen Garfield Aymond, and I can’t help but think about the courage it must have taken for him to confront such a dangerous situation. In 1904, without the technology and backup we have today, every call must have felt like stepping into the unknown. He was only 22—so young yet already making such a difference in his community. It’s chilling to think about what he went through on that fateful day at 8th and Arial Streets. I hope his family found some solace in knowing how much his sacrifice meant to Alexandria and to law enforcement history. Does anyone know if any local memorials or events are still held in his honor? It seems important to keep his legacy alive.
