I've been reading more about the tragic case of Newton "Newt" Brown and his wife, Erlene, and something that stands out to me is the sheer shock their friends and neighbors must have felt on that Christmas day in 1982. I can't even begin to imagine the horror of hearing that your dear friends and community members were suddenly taken in such a senseless act of violence right in their own home. It makes me wonder how the neighborhood might've changed after this incident. Did the community rally together in support of the family, or did it breed a sense of fear that lingered for years? I'm hoping that the Browns had people around them who could cherish their memory and help amplify the calls for justice. It's incredible how sometimes, during the worst of times, people find a way to band together and make a difference. Sending thoughts to everyone who was affected by this awfully tragic event. ?
